The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Bible

hitch-hiker's guide to the bibleThe Bible can seem very daunting - especially if you're new to the faith, studying it at school or just wanting to get a picture of how the whole thing hangs together. Step forward Colin Sinclair and his nifty Hitch-Hiker's Guide.

Sinclair's Guide to the Bible gives short introductions to each book, unpacks some of the themes, adds some thought-provoking ideas and even chucks in some maps. But it is more than just a beginner's guide. It will actually be useful for anyone with an interest in the Bible, even quite experienced Christians who just want to see some of the connections between different books afresh.

Its great strength is its written style. It is a lovely read - conversational, witty and helpful. Indeed at times it almost feels as though Mr Sinclair is in the room with us helping us to bring Scripture alive.

Above all this is not a lightweight book, although it does lighten the load for those of us who want to understand the Bible better. With its helpful headings and careful explanations this is a winner. It is perhaps particularly useful for those Bible books that are troublesome or complicated. A good read.
